This wine comes from our preferred vineyards within the traditional wine-growing village of Kitzeck im Sausal. With its high altitude and unique slate soils, the village of "Kitzeck-Sausal" offers great conditions for growing wine. It can be proven that Kitzeck-Sausal was already an important wine-growing village of the monarchy in 1763. Only selected grape varieties that have been indigenous here for decades are vinified by us into local wines.

Karl and Elisabeth Schauer laid the foundation for a Südsteiermark success story and made the Schauer winery with its Buschenschank one of the most popular hotspots in southern Styria. Their sons Stefan and Bernhard run the business today. What unites the two brothers is their passion for wine. What they complement each other in are their respective strengths, which they combine and gear to the highest international standards.

Origin defines the identity and essence of our wines. It is the Paleozoic slate formations of the Sausal that, in combination with the exceptional altitude, the steepness of the terrain and the cool nightly winds, give the wines, above all Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, this very special character, their unique salty-mineral note.
