The German wine and summer-loving magazine Meininger's Weinwirtschaft took a closer look at and tasted the local wines of Styria. We are delighted that our "Sauvignon Blanc Kitzeck-Sausal 2018" was voted the best local wine in Styria by a margin of two points.

Local wines have played a special role at our winery for many years. We introduced this category as early as the 2011 vintage, back then still under the name "Kitzecker Schiefergestein". We were undoubtedly a pioneer in Styria in this respect, and the local wine has been highly valued in our range ever since and is often referred to as our "signature wine". The name has changed due to new legal regulations, but the idea behind it has remained the same over the past 8 years:

Schauer - SB Kitzeck Sausal DAC

- Grapes from selected slate vineyards within Kitzeck-Sausal (400-600 metres above sea level). High altitudes, cool climate, slate soil.
- Vine age of at least 15 years (average 25 years).
- Elegant, spicy character with smoky notes - Firm, straightforward body with a striking acidity structure.
- Profound and structured, a certain lightness and yet full of substance.
- Clearly recognisable but restrained varietal aromas. Never overpowering.
